A sudoku a day, makes the memory stay…

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

I’ve noticed over time that my memory just isn’t what it used to be. There was a time when I could remember all the phone numbers of my friends by heart and now I have to whip out my phone or planner to confirm. Getting older sucks. So I’ve been looking into methods to help it out. J’s told me a ton of times that it’s good to work on the sudoku puzzles because they’re good for the memory and brain. It’s great brain work, I’ll admit. I even downloaded it on my Moto Q so that I could practice when I’m riding the bus or otherwise in a place where I don’t have access to a more traditional method. It’s not helped yet, or at least I haven’t noticed. But maybe it’s one of those things that just takes a while to really have a noticeable effect.

Want to know more about it? Check out Why Sudoku makes your brain hurt. Pretty interesting reading, I have to admit. Who knew a game phenomenon could be so good for you?

Yeah, sometimes…

I’m going to bed early tonight. The intent is to get up early and get some stuff done when it’s quiet. I might do some stuff upstairs, but it has to be stuff away from the computer. I just can’t get anything done when I’m near this thing. I get distracted. I’m definitely one of those people that follows links and just procrastinates instead of getting my work done. Believe me, that’s not a good thing at all! :) However, I’m making a bit of time for everything and I feel good about that. Today was a challenge in that respect and I have a project due at work that I have to get done tomorrow morning or this chick from corporate is going to eat me alive. After she roasts my ass with my boss, of course. Love how that works, I’m sure! :)

And, I guess I only have two questions for you guys tonight:

  1. Anyone meditate? I’m curious how this works out and want to give it a shot. I’m told it’s a wonder for starting your day on the right foot.
  2. And then there’s the question of how you get organized. To do lists? Planner? Phone? Memory? I’m trying to find a happy median of them all and any ideas would be great. I guess this is the whole time management thing in a nut shell, eh?

Updates, oh yeah…

It’s a busy day in the neighborhood! Well, I guess not really. I spent the evening updating to the latest version of Wordpress, which is nice. There are some good changes made to it. And, so far, I like it better than the previous version. I also got my Twitter working on the side bar! (Random side though, I keep wanting to type Twister instead of Twitter don’t ask why!)

I think I need to update the smilies though. I wonder if there’s a way to search emoticons inside posts so that I know what I’m up against. It’s been forever since I did anything at all with my smilies. Yes, I know, I’m long overdue. I’m sure Mazeguy has a ton that I could make use of. His stuff has always rocked my world. :)

That’s all, I’m off to bed. Wittier stuff tomorrow!

In the spirit of updating…

You’ll soon see whatever I randomly thinking/doing via Twitter. I didn’t give it much thought when I had read about it earlier, but I was thinking that it might be handy. It’s an easy way for me to just spout little tidbits and also do it while I’m out and about versus being attached to the computer. Who doesn’t enjoy that? I wish there was a similar program out there where I could maintain a To Do list via text messages and then mark off things. Kind of a reminder system. Because goodness knows that I forget a lot of stuff! Oh well. If I had more talent in programming, I would so be there.

In other news, updates are afoot. Keep checking back to see what nifty thing I put int he sidebar(s) and what theme takes over this site soon. :) Oh, and I’m participating in NaBloPoMo even though I found it later than the first of the month and therefore missed one of the days. But I figure that’s ok since I’ve committed to it since I joined. :)

See the tiny dancer?

Which way is she turning for you?

Tiny Dancer

For me, she turns clockwise unless I concentrate and then I can get her to go counter-clockwise. What’s that mean to you? See below:

If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.

Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.
