This is really aimed at people like Rachel, who take some awesome photos and yet don’t submit them to photo competitions.
I think she could do well if she submitted one to the PhotographyCorner.com 2006 Photograph of the Year Contest. I mean, there’s no entry fee, the rules are thorough (but most contest rules are) and the prizes certainly make it worth a shot. I might even enter myself even though I wasn’t seriously focusing on the finer points of photography until recently. What harm can it do to give it a try?
I’m always wary of photo contests because you hear horror stories about what happens when you enter your photo and the contest isn’t really a contest. Well, at least not an above board contest. Thankfully, with all the wonderful well-known sponsors on this one, I feel safe participating.
And I bet at this point you haven’t even looked at the prizes, have you? There are some nifty Lensbabies (which I want), various softwares, bags, gift certificates and some snazzy iStock Photo stuff. Color me green with envy!
Oh, there is one catch that I found in the rules, so read carefully before submitting. You have to be a member of the forums to get the winning notification (it’ll come via private message) and you have to have made five posts on the forums before submitting your photo. That’s a breeze to do though! The forums are ones I wish I knew about before this contest. They have tons of information and it’s going to take me a while to get through them all. So, yeah, go through them and you’ll see that you have tons of things to say, so those five posts will be there in no time!
So Rachel… Which image are you submitting!?
