I happen to think it’s right

Friday, February 17th, 2006

Wal-mart has been told to carry the morning after pill in its pharmacies. I personally have to agree with this. I’m not saying yay or nay for usage of this pill, but it’s a prescription. That means you should have a right to get it at your pharmacy, regardless of where the pharmacy is located. In the area where my mother lives, there aren’t a ton of pharmacies in town. It’s not like here in Phoenix, where there’s one on every corner. So if a woman has this prescription, she should be able to get it filled.

This is a pretty major move for the court system Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy. I mean, you wouldn’t think to not stock antidepressants but maybe you’d disagree with stocking AIDS drugs. Is it fair for a pharmacy to decide which prescriptions they will fill? I don’t believe so. If I go to a pharmacy for a drug, I want to have it filled without being judged or argued with or sent somewhere else.

This is just a sad world

When children can not go to school without unethical people taking advantage of them. What exactly are we teaching our children? This is what I read if my local paper:

Kids paid teacher $1 a day to skip gym class

Associated Press - Feb. 16, 2006 11:15 AM

PENSACOLA, Fla. - A middle school gym teacher let children sit out his class if they paid him $1 a day, collecting perhaps thousands of dollars, officials said Thursday.

Terence Braxton, 28, took the payoffs between September and December, resigning after the principal learned of the scheme from a parent, authorities said.

He is being sought on bribery charges.

The charges accuse Braxton of taking about $230 from six students, but sheriff’s spokesman Mike Ward said the teacher’s take was probably much greater.

What really ticks me off is that this is at middle school level. We’re talking children ranging in age from 11-14. That’s almost how old Sam is. He’s not the most gullible kid, but I bet that if given the chance, he’d probably go for it to. Of course, he’s not really given the chance. He’s not a great liar and I’m very involved with how he manages his finances. Mainly because he belongs to the Bank of Mom & Dad. It just kills me that he got away with it for so long without anyone saying anything or noticing. :(

So I want a PDA type thing

Wednesday, February 15th, 2006

A few weeks back my phone was stolen. This really isn’t as big of a deal as it sounds except that I’m paying for something I’m really not using, which sucks. Anyway, in light of the fact that I wanted to upgrade to a PDA, I thought I’d start researching before buying my replacement phone. (Before you ask, yes I have the old phone on insurance, but I figure that if I have to go through more paperwork to get a phone that’s cool but slightly irritating, it’s just not worth it.)

So I’ve narrowed down my choices to either the lovely Palm Treo 650 or the UTStarcom PPC6700. Alltel users are pretty evenly split with both PDAs getting about 4 out of 5 stars. Anyone had any particular experience with either of these or heard any opinions on them? I’m boggling my mind with all the research I’m doing. :)

I’d really like to get rid of my planner. I’m just not a Carry Planner Around Under Arm type girl. But I do like everything you get in a planner. It’s very nice and organized. It’s just killing me to have yet another thing to carry that’s bulky and unwieldy.

I could be your #1 Single

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

I have fallen in love with Lisa Loeb all over again. When her song Stay came out, everyone loved to point out that I bore a striking resemblence to her. Maybe I did back then but I don’t think I do now. She’s so adorable though!

Anyway, the real reason I’ve fallen in love with her is her new show #1 Single. You’d think that it’d be a lot like some of E’s really dumb reality shows. (I’m of the belief that E and VH1 are in competition to see who can create the most obnoxious reality shows around. It’s a toss up, but I think VH1 is winning this season.) If you haven’t had a chance to watch #1 Single, you should consider taking a chance on it. Lisa really does have a great sense of humor. You watch it, and if you could forget that she has tons of money, dated Dweezil Zappa, makes beautiful music and is just downright adorable, you’d think she was the girl next door. She really has that down-to-earth attitude about her.

I especially love her love of food. Oh my, a girl after my own heart! But trust me, watch it. And if you don’t want to do that, go to Lisa’s site and listen to the theme song. It’s mighty catchy.

Forget flowers, say it with Hearts

I was goofing off with the Acme Heart Maker and created the attached images. Aren’t they cute? I could see someone with more time and creativity than me creating a fabulous Valentine’s Day theme with it. The only drawback to this is that it’s tough to come up with ways to say what you want in only 8 letters. They do have the cute heart shape in there though! :) I can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with!
