Simply a self portrait

I took this yesterday and tweaked it with Virtual Photographer. Which, by the way, is an amazing set of plugins. Try it sometime. You’ll love the results. :)

The framed print in the background says Wisdom, for those that may ask. ;)

Don’t believe everything you assume…

So, a coworker was watching 60 Minutes on Sunday and came to work on Monday to tell me about this interesting story they ran regarding For Profit Colleges. Why did she want to mention this to me? Well, Jayson goes to ITT Tech, which is definitely a for-profit college and 60 minutes mentioned ITT in its story. To quote the article:

And a year ago, federal agents raided the headquarters and 10 campuses of ITT Educational Services, investigating charges of falsified grades and attendance records.

From this you assume that ITT was found guilty on the charges. Here’s what ITT posted on their parent site on June 24, 2005 regarding the outcome (emphasis mine):

ITT Educational Services, Inc. (NYSE: ESI) announced today that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas (”USAO”) advised the company in a letter received today that a multi-year nationwide investigation has not revealed evidence of wrongdoing by the company or its senior management to warrant continuing them as targets or subjects of the federal government’s investigation. The company is not paying any fines or penalties in connection with this action. A copy of the USAO’s letter can be viewed at this address: http://media.corporate-ir.net/media_files/NYS/ESI/DOJLet.pdf.

You’d think 60 Minutes would’ve mentioned that so that people wouldn’t assume the wrong thing. I know it’s not slander, but it’s close to being in my book. If a reputable news outlet isn’t giving all the facts, that’s a problem.

And the addiction continues

In spite of wanting to go off and puzzle me life away, I’ve decided that I really have been neglecting my wonderful blogging friends and nonblogging family sites. So, on that note, I have spent the past two evenings kicking Rachel’s site into the future. It’s chock full of nice little things that the average person can’t see because I did them for Rachel’s benefit. And even she doesn’t know them all yet. :) I haven’t had a chance to sit with her and explain them yet. Really though, the ones she uses, she’ll love. Or hate. At least she’s honest with me, lol. :) If you hadn’t noticed by the time on this post, it’s extremely late for me. I’m in the process of fixing the smilies on her site and really had to tear myself away from the horror of it. It’s one of those things where I’m switching things around on the system and it’s a lot of work. It will rock for her in the end though. I just have to get to the end. :D I’m going to bed mates. It’s almost 11 and this chick’s brain has been beat for the night. :)

Damn, weekends are short

We’ve had a good family weekend really. Friday there was a baby shower for a gal that I work with. It was very nice and wonderful and held at Monti’s on Mill. I have a lot of pictures that Jayson took, but I haven’t downloaded them to fix them up yet. I might post them online but I haven’t really decided yet. Putting up work related things doesn’t appeal to me too much because I figure that you’ve got to be opening yourself up for something, ya know?

Anyway, on Saturday we went and saw March of the Penguins with the Terrors. It was amazing! And ironically, everyone in our family loved it completely. :) I really want to see Wedding Crashers like a dear girlie did but I definitely can’t take the kids on that one. Could you imagine the questions they would have? And to be honest, I don’t think I’d mind them seeing it if I could see it first and be prepared for what was in it. That’s one of those movies that we probably won’t see for a long time. If you’re interested in The Penguins though, go see it. Very well done and it doesn’t relaly have any slow parts. :)

As for today, we just vegged around the house goofing off and napping and such. With school here again, the weekends have really become family time around here. More so than ever, I guess. Pretty soon Sam will be wanting to hang out with his friends and we’ll be put to the side. I’m not really looking forward to that but I can already see the changes that are happening in him. He’s definitely getting older all the time. One day, I’m going to blink and he’s going to be an adult! Okay, enough rambling. Off I go again. :)

I really am feeling better… sorta

Wednesday, August 10th, 2005

I’m tired and seem to be really cold all the time right now. And my eyes ache. It’s actually a whole body ache but my ear stopped being weird and my skin on the left side of my body has returned to it’s normal state of feeling. Well, mostly. The skin that covers the left side of my ribs is still being a little odd. But mostly, I’m feeling better. It’s funny to hear people ask how I’m feeling since I don’t usually wear a sweater at the office but this past week I have been. I tell you, everyone wonders if I’m ill. I tell them I’m not. Just a bit cold and feeling a bit icky. Nothing serious enough to miss work over. To be honest, I’d rather miss work over something fun not something icky. On that note, I’m heading bed now. I’ve actually been downing caffiene recently because I just don’t seem to get enough sleep at night. I’m hoping I can do “catch up sleep” this weekend. I know, I know. That’s not how it should be done. But I really do enjoy sleeping in til 7 am, lol. :)
