Still fiddling

Tuesday, April 13th, 2004

I don’t have much to post about since I’m still fiddling with websites and the server moves I did. I’m trying not to procrasinate and just get it all done. :) New smilies are now available, too! :b-woot: Okay, I’m going to mop the floor… Fun for me! (Or not!) :???:

Why I switched from MT to WP

Monday, April 12th, 2004

No doubt, the question will be raised here, as it has been every time someone switches journal software. :) I switched because I find it easier to manipulate, understand, and learn from. Wordpress is software that I can grow with as it develops. Furthermore, it’s simplicity at its finest. MT is great, but way too much for the average journaler. And sometimes, you look at it all and just get lost in the sheer volume of it. There is so much to MT, that it’s frustrating for the average user. I’m above average, I know. I know and understand how to manipulate MT. But putting plugins into it turns out to be more frustrating than it’s worth half the time.

And let’s not even go into the rebuilding aspect, which just dies on the slowest machine in my house. I realize that machine is way too old, but it handles Wordpress without a blink. That is important to me. I want something that doesn’t bog my computers, no matter how old they happen to be. I also wanted something that I didn’t have to take an hour to install every time I chose to get a new server. I realize that I’ve only had to do it twice for myself, but that’s 2 hours of my time that I could’ve spent doing other things. :)

But the biggest reason I chose to switch is simply that we lead by example. I have clients who I set up sites for. Most of them are clueless to the behind the scenes workings of journal software and websites in general. To give them Wordpress, show them how to use it quickly and easily, and then change what they want on the fly, gives them power over their site instead of their site having power over them. MT is powerful but too powerful in most cases. There is a case for simplicity and Wordpress is it.

I’d like it this way and NOW!

I don’t think that I should be a perfectionist and a procrasinator. I think it defies logic, lol. I never get things done because I’m always pushing them off and when I do start working on them, I take forever because I’m trying to get them just right. I’m jealous of those people who go after something and just get it done. How nice that must be! Of course, I could choose to change my behaviour, which would mean a much more productive lifestyle for me, but change is such a PITA. To be honest though, most of my procrasinating is related to web design and such. The perfectionist side is through out life in general. But at least I get things done off the net, lol. :) I’m going to be spending today getting stuff done online, which means some pretty boring work. But once it’s done, it’s done, eh?

Pardon the Dust

Converting templates to WP has proven too much for my mind today, lol. I’ll be working on this tomorrow. At least I got all the hosting issues worked out! Woot! Okay, I’m going to go read and then head to bed. :) Goodnight!

Eye Jewelry?

Thursday, April 8th, 2004

WTF? That is just gross, I tell you. No, I will never ever be getting eye jewelry on my super sensitive eyes. To be honest, I hope I don’t see anyone sporting it here in Arizona, either. That’s just odd. I understand that it’s all done under sterile conditions, but I’m not sure it’s worth it. Just yuck!

On a side note, my contact and my eyes seem to be getting along just fine now. :)
