Everyone’s got something to hide
The web goes through phases and recently the trend has been to private post. I don’t private post. On the other hand, I’ve got no real need to. There are just things I don’t talk about on this site. Why? Because I talk to my mom, best friends, hubby, etc about them. And to be frank, I don’t need some random person coming on here and deciding how I should behave. It’s my site, it’s my life. On the other hand, as I had to point out to my hubby, I do not choose to post a ton of information about him and my terrors. It’s not because they aren’t a huge part of my life, it’s because they are. They’re my everything and I don’t want things to come back later to haunt them or me. I don’t mind using their first names or talking about things as they happen, I just don’t think that everything that happens should be up for public consumption. Obviously, I made this choice before I started keeping an online site eight years ago. Others are making that very choice right now. How many blogs have you seen that have gone to password protecting part or all of their site? Or the ones who have gone incognito on a new site. I can’t keep track of the number I have run across or know of. The internet makes people forget the safety zones that we have in public. At least humans are consistant and bring our safety zones full force into every aspect of our lives at some point.

I’m like an open book; however, I learned over the last several months that posting certain information on the Net can bite me later. So I password-protect certain entries, but I still post them, because my blog is my journal — especially since I can’t use pen & paper.
