Weekly Wrapup #60
- Do you offer comments and/or trackback on your blog? Why or why not? Underwhat circumstances might you pull one or both of these feedback features? I have both features on my journal because it’s nice for people to interact. Otherwise, why not just keep a diary in book form? Or keep something on your computer? Why bother operating a website for it. And to be honest, I can’t think of a time when I would pull either feature. For a while I had only comments possible because my trackback wasn’t working properly, but other than that, nada.
How do you handle comment trolls? Would you edit their posts or those of others who might express a differing opinion or offensive tone? Why or why not? Trolls are a species all unto themselves. I believe that if you’re going to troll my site and not say anything (one word comments are fine, repeat comments are not) or you’re going to say something that isn’t remotely relative at all, then I’m going to edit it or delete the comment. I don’t worry about people commenting on my site. I know people read it, and for me that’s good enough. As for people who express a difference of opinion, I don’t believe in censorship. If you don’t like what I have to say on a subject, let me know. That’s one of the points to having a website where people can interact. The world would be a boring place if we all agreed.
Have you ever used a password protected blog (either .htaccess, restricted entries hacks, pMachine, LiveJournal, etc.)? When and why? How did you determine who you would permit access to this protected area? I have never used a password protected blog, mainly because I haven’t felt the need. I do understand where others might choose to go this route, I just haven’t ever had a good reason.
Do you let family, real life friends, or work colleagues read your blog? Why or why not? My family and friends have all been welcomed to read it. I definitely don’t hide it from anyone, including search engines. I would probably discourage anyone from telling work colleagues about it, only because many comments that are made on it by me might be looked up wrongly in a work situation. And I wouldn’t want to be water cooler conversation anyhow. It’s not high on the list of things in life I’d like to be.
Name one person on your blogroll you’d most like to meet. Why did you pick that person? Where would you go and what would you do? Merrin is definitely the person I’d most like to meet. I love reading her blog and enjoy her viewpoint on life. I mean, she seems so real and like what you see is what you get. I’d probably head out to Texas to meet her. I love DFW!
Bonus Question: What new blog did you discover this week? Why would you recommend it to others?
Blogasm. And I really wouldn’t recommend it to others, unless I knew they were interested in sex. It’s all about sex, and usually not scientifically.
It is enjoyable to read sometimes, though. And the authors have nice little blogs, themselves. I know that others have really gotten into Blogasm, but I’m a bit slow on the uptake sometimes!
